Parent Connect | April 23, 2017

Last weekend in DV we had the opportunity to share one of the best Bible stories ever, The Easter story. Be sure to follow up this week using your Parent Cue activity, or talk about the story using your child’s craft from last weekend. Don’t miss precious time with your child reviewing the Bible story taught and taking time to pray together.

Parent Cue Activity: BATH TIME

Cut a heart shape out of a new pink kitchen sponge and add it to bath time this week. Tell your child that a heart reminds us of love. When Jesus died and went away (cover the heart sponge up with a wash cloth) everyone was very sad. But then Jesus came back (uncover the sponge) just like He promised! Jesus went away (cover sponge) and then He came back (uncover sponge)!

Enjoy the very simple activities that may go a long way in their heart.

The Story

Peter the Rock  Matthew 16:17-18

Jesus tells Peter that He will use him to build the Church and it will do great things.

This week in DV we will hear how Jesus teaches Peter to build the church. Of course  this type of building wasn’t with block and mortar.  Jesus meant people. He wanted Peter to tell as many people as he could the story of Jesus.  The more people that heard the story and made Jesus their Lord, the more people there would be to help continue to tell the story. The church, “the people”, would grow and grow.

For fun this week, grab those building blocks, Jenga pieces, or plastic cups and start building towers. When you finish your buildings take time out to read this week’s Bible story together. Ask your preschooler how they could help “build the church”.

This Month’s Memory Verse

Bible Memory Verse With Motions:God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son.” John 3:16

“God (point up) loved (hug yourself) the world (raise your arms overhead to form a circle) so much (stretch your arms out as far as possible) that He gave (place your hands together with palms up in front of you as if you’re offering something) His only Son (hold your arms as if you’re cradling and rocking a baby), John 3:16.” (Open your hands like a book.)
